Items we have found invaluable for Jasper’s 0-3 mos:

The Fleece Pouch
We used it constantly to get Binx sleepy in the newborn carry until he became too big and uncomfortable in it (at about 12 lbs.). We’re confident we’ll use it again in another position as soon as he gets proficient head control.

Wayside/Back in Time by Gillian Welch
Binx’s lullaby.

The Moby Wrap

After a quick demo by friends Kim and Levi, I ran out and bought one since Binx was out of the fleece pouch and annoyed by riding backwards in his regular carrier. This wrap rules! Binx usually falls asleep in it while I’m doing chores or hitting the park.

The Kolcraft Universal Carrier
As much as we love our Phil and Ted’s, newborn parents only need the Kolcraft up front. Just plunk down the car seat and go.

Koeka Burp Cloths
These are the nicest “go to meeting” terry burp cloths we have in our diaper bag. Their other products look great too — a local salesperson puts her toddler in a Koeka poncho for meals out.

Bumpkins Chin Bibs
Great for the early droolies. Parents seem to rave about their other bibs, too.

Fascinating playtime last night while mom was at yoga. I was dangling colored rings in front of a bouncy-seated binx. He usually watches, but as his arm swings have a standard pattern and radius he usually misses the rings and starts sucking his knuckles. Mostly, it’s just a game of visual distraction. This time, however, Jasper was totally on-task. A Binx possessed.

He would miss, but immediately reset, arms wide, staring at the rings. Another miss, immediate reset, totally in the zone. i move the rings, eyes following intently, position shifts. Success brings a bright smile and squeal of delight, a bit of tug-n-play with them; then let go and get ready for the next attempt at depth perception. This easily went on for 15 minutes. Fascinating.

Maybe that’s what the Big Day of Crankiness on Tues was about - sprouting new ganglion.

Quick stats:

length: 25″
weight: 11.5′
basically 50th percentile

Overall, Jasper is cooing, smiling, recognizing people, getting visibly bored/excited/engaged, and starting to grasp at things. He’s discovered if you smack the little fish, it makes a rattly sound. The face on the whoozit freaks him out, but the Cube of Wonder still occasionally becomes the Cube of Terror (especially the Twilight Zone Panda - if you have it, you know).

Still loves the CD rack, Manjushri, and the play of light and shadows through the wndow slats (me too).

Still can’t get enough of that Gillian Welch tune “Wayside/Back in Time”. Seems to like meeting people.

Overall, cheerful, although the current growth spurt results in lots of fussiness.
